The family of slain football star Senzo Meyiwa is calling on President Cyril Ramaphosa to intervene in his murder case, saying 12 years later, justice has still not been served.

The late footballer’s family is expected to protest outside the Union Buildings on Tuesday, 19 May, in an effort to get Ramaphosa’s attention.

While the decade-long murder trial continues, Meyiwa’s family is pleading with the president to intervene and help fast-track the process.

On the night he was killed, Senzo reportedly visited his musician girlfriend Kelly Khumalo when gunmen entered her mother’s home in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg, and fatally shot him.

Since then, police have made progress in the case, with five suspects arrested, although investigations into who allegedly ordered the hit are still ongoing.

While the trial has moved at a slow pace over the years, the State wrapped up its case in 2025, and the defence is now busy with its witnesses.
