South African President Cyril Ramaphosa quietly travelled to Zimbabwe over the weekend, opting for a private meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at his farm in Kwekwe.
The visit, which was attended by Zimbabwean business tycoons, quickly caught public attention.
Ramaphosa meets Mnangagwa at private farm
Instead of following the usual state protocol, Mnangagwa hosted Ramaphosa at his Precabe Farm, where the two leaders were seen strolling through the property in widely shared videos and images from 3 May 2026.
The informal setting underscored the personal nature of the visit, with both governments remaining silent on the agenda and issuing no official statement.
Business elite join Ramaphosa- Mnangagwa private gathering
The meeting drew further interest due to the presence of influential Zimbabwean businessmen closely linked to state projects.
Among those reportedly in attendance were Wicknell Chivayo, Kudakwashe Tagwirei and Paul Tungwarara.
Tagwirei, who plays a central role in the energy sector and advises Mnangagwa, and Chivayo, known for landing major government contracts, added weight to speculation about the meeting’s purpose.
Tungwarara, active in construction and technology, further highlighted the business dimension of the gathering.
Mnangagwa–Ramaphosa meeting raises regional questions
Although none of the attendees have commented, observers believe the mix of political and business figures points to possible investment or economic discussions.
The secrecy surrounding the meeting has only intensified curiosity about what may have been discussed behind closed doors.
Analysts note that leaders within the Southern African Development Community often hold informal engagements to allow frank discussions away from official scrutiny.
However, hosting a visiting president at a private farm, rather than a state venue, has raised eyebrows, especially given the presence of high-profile business figures.
Strategic ties in the spotlight
Ramaphosa’s visit comes at a time when Zimbabwe and South Africa continue to deepen economic cooperation, particularly in trade, energy and investment.
While Precabe Farm has previously hosted Mnangagwa’s allies, the inclusion of a regional leader elevates its significance beyond a routine private meeting.
Despite images showing a relaxed and cordial atmosphere between the two presidents, the lack of official communication has left analysts and the public speculating.
For now, authorities maintain that the trip was purely private, but its political and economic implications continue to generate debate across the region.
