There are few relationship tests more revealing than a fallout between your partner and your family. Not a disagreement but a genuine, drawn-out fallout where both sides are waiting to see where your loyalty lands.

The Siz The World team tackled the question head-on this week, in the wake of the very public drama surrounding Nhlamulo Ndhlela and Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla amid the MK Party turmoil.

When the battle lines have been drawn between your family and your partner, the team asked the Kaya audience: who do you choose? Do you present a united front or stick to the truth?

The answers were as honest as they were divided.

Sizwe Dhlomo did not hesitate. For him, the relationship status is beside the point. “For me, it doesn’t matter whether you are my wife or not, but about what is right.”

Juliet Joseph took a different view, and made no apologies for it. “Whether he is right or wrong, darling, we are together in this. My family will always take me back, but for that moment love lives here.”

Mbali Thethane’s approach is not about choosing a side when the conflict arises. It is about reading the signs before it does. “I have always told myself that I’ll never put myself in a situation where people must choose sides. If I can see that you are a mama’s boy I am out.”
