Gauteng police have launched a manhunt for a suspect following a random shooting that left one person dead and six others injured in Alexandra township, north of Johannesburg.
According to police, the incident stemmed from an altercation between two individuals who were reportedly arguing on the street.
It is alleged that during the confrontation, one of the men drew a firearm and began firing randomly.
Seven people sustained injuries during the shooting and were transported to a local clinic for medical treatment. One of the victims later succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on arrival.
Gauteng police spokesperson, Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, said police have since opened a case of murder and six counts of attempted murder.
The suspect remains at large, and investigators are appealing to members of the public who may have information that could assist in locating the suspect to contact their nearest police station or the Crime Stop Line on 08600 10111.
Authorities say investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting are ongoing.
