A police captain arrested by the Madlanga Commission Task Team for allegedly defeating the ends of justice is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrates Court today, 25 May 2026.
The arrested officer is attached to the South African Police Service Forensic Science Laboratory.
He was arrested on Friday, 22 May 2026, at his residence in the City of Tshwane following investigations conducted by the task team.
The arrest relates to allegations of defeating the ends of justice in several high-profile murder cases currently under investigation, as well as matters linked to evidence before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
During the arrest, investigators seized several state-owned items, including ballistic reports, rounds of ammunition, and other evidential material believed to be relevant to ongoing investigations.
In February, the inquiry heard a testimony from a ballistics expert who defended errors found in a ballistic report linked to the murder of Armand Swart.
The expert described the mistakes as simple typing errors and rejected allegations that the report had been deliberately tampered with.
Last year, the commission also heard a testimony that a report compiled by the captain allegedly omitted 15 AK-47 cartridges.
