- Two suspects were apprehended in Hatfield on Thursday morning shortly after an armed robbery at a PnP Liquor outlet.
- Security teams seized a white VW Polo containing stolen cash, alcohol, and a replica firearm used in the heist.
- The arrested individuals are linked to a string of recent armed robberies across Sunnyside, Hatfield, and the Moot area.
Two suspected armed robbers were taken into custody on Thursday morning following a swift tactical response to a heist at the PnP Liquor store in Hatfield, Pretoria.
The suspects were intercepted at the intersection of Hilda and Park Streets, directly outside the premises, where law enforcement stopped a white Volkswagen Polo believed to be the primary getaway vehicle.
Inside the vehicle, officers recovered a cache of stolen liquor and cash, alongside a replica firearm used to intimidate staff during the robbery.
This specific vehicle has been under surveillance for its suspected involvement in a series of similar crimes, including a previous hit on the same Hatfield outlet and a recent armed robbery in the Moot area last week.
The successful apprehension was the result of a highly coordinated effort between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and a coalition of private security firms, including VumaCam, Fidelity ADT, and Bidvest Protea Coin, among others.
The Hatfield CID also played a pivotal role in tracking the suspects as they attempted to flee the scene.
The suspects remain in police custody while detectives investigate their connection to a wider syndicate targeting businesses across Gauteng.
These arrests mark a significant victory for local authorities as they continue to combat the recent surge in retail-focused armed robberies in the region.
