- Julius Malema paid his final respects to his maternal aunt, Martha Malema, who passed away on 16 March 2026 at the age of 54 in Seshego, Polokwane.
- An EFF member since 2013, Mme Martha was remembered for her dedication to the community and influence in Ward 13, Seshego.
- The funeral was attended by prominent figures including Dr Polly Boshielo, Panyaza Lesufi, and Collen Malatji, with gospel singer Winnie Mashaba performing a tribute.
South African politician and leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, paid his final respects to his maternal aunt, Martha Motlanalo Malema, on Sunday, 22 March 2026, in Seshego, Polokwane.
This follows her passing on Monday, 16 March, at the age of 54.
An EFF member since its inception in 2013, Martha Malema, who was affectionately known as Mme Malema, was remembered for her unwavering dedication to the community and her influence in Ward 13, Seshego.
Among those attending the funeral service were Deputy Minister of Police Dr Polly Boshielo, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, ANC Youth League President Collen Malatji and Advocate Dali Mpofu.
Gospel singer Winnie Mashaba also delivered a musical tribute.
In a message of solidarity, the EFF said in a statement:
“President, you are not alone. We stand with you in this moment of loss and remembrance. We, too, were touched by the warmth, kindness, and love that Mme Martha so generously shared with us all.
“Her presence lives on in our hearts, and together, we honour the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.”
