  • High-profile Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni and three co-accused have been granted bail of R70,000 each.
  • The group faces prosecution for allegedly extorting more than R2.2 million from a mining businessman between 2022 and 2025.
  • The suspects must report to a designated police station and are strictly prohibited from interfering with state witnesses.

Prominent Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni, alongside his co-accused Bafana Sindane, Mvimbi Masilela, and Philemon Msiza, appeared in the Delmas Magistrate’s Court following the re-enrolment of their extortion and money laundering case.

The four men stand accused of extorting over R2.2 million from a mining businessman over a three-year period.

The case was reinstated after previously being struck off the roll at the Kwaggafontein Magistrate’s Court when the presiding prosecutor failed to appear, reportedly due to receiving death threats.

In response to the re-enrolment, the accused have approached the High Court in Mbombela to challenge the J50 arrest warrants. Within the court documents, they launched a strong critique against the state’s handling of the matter:

“They criticise the National Prosecuting Authority for not giving them time to make representations before re-enrolling the case.”

The court granted bail set at R70,000 each, under strict conditions that they avoid witness interference and report to a police station agreed upon with the State.

The matter has been postponed, and the accused are scheduled to return to court on 1 September.
