Kaizer Chiefs: Rushwin Dortley comeback loading

Kaizer Chiefs’ goalless draw against Polokwane City brought their five-match winning run to an end, but attention has also turned to the long-awaited return of defender Rushwin Dortley.

The left-footed centre-back has been out for close to a year after picking up an injury early last year, missing the entire current season.

RUSHWIN DORTLEY EDGING CLOSER TO RETURN

Before that setback, Dortley had made a strong start at Kaizer Chiefs, even earning a Bafana Bafana call-up during the AFCON qualifiers.

His absence has been felt at the back, with Chiefs forced to adjust throughout the campaign. After the draw in Polokwane, co-coach Cedric Kaze confirmed that Dortley has now returned to training, offering a positive update.

“That is the question for the medical team, but last week he started to be with us, to touch the ball,” said Kaze.

“I’m pretty sure he is not far from returning.” While no exact return date has been confirmed, the signs suggest Amakhosi could soon have an important defensive option back in the squad.

Kaizer Chiefs remain third on the Betway Premiership table with 46 points from 24 matches and now shift focus to a massive clash.

Amakhosi are set to face Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium on Sunday, 26 April, with momentum and squad depth set to be key.
