Former SuperSport United head coach Kaitano Tembo has been thrust into the spotlight after being appointed interim head coach of the Warriors.
This follows the sudden resignation of Marian Marinica.
The Zimbabwe Football Association confirmed on Monday that Marinica stepped down citing personal reasons, leaving the association scrambling to steady the national team ahead of its next assignment.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) announces that Marian Marinica has resigned from his position as Head Coach of the Zimbabwe Senior Men’s National Team, citing personal reasons,” the association said in a statement.
“ZIFA has accepted his resignation and thanks Coach Marinica for his contribution to the Warriors. The Association wishes him well in his future endeavours.”
Former SuperSport United coach handed interim role
ZIFA have moved quickly to plug the gap, appointing Tembo, best known for his time at SuperSport United, as interim head coach.
The former Sekhukhune United and Rhards Bay coach now faces the task of guiding the Warriors through a crucial transition period.
“Kaitano Tembo has been appointed Interim Head Coach and will lead the team for the upcoming Unity Cup assignment in the United Kingdom,” ZIFA confirmed.
Tembo steps into the role with limited preparation time.

Takesure Chiragwi, who makes a return to the Warriors technical team after a period away will assist Tembo.
Chiragwi had stepped aside from national duty late last year following a touchline incident during his time at Ngezi Platinum, where he struck one of his players.
The episode drew widespread criticism, prompting an apology and disciplinary processes that led to his temporary withdrawal.
His return now signals a second chance at international level.
