- Hundreds of student nurses in Gauteng have been affected by delays in stipend payments this month.
- The Gauteng Department of Health says the issue is linked to documentation verification and payment processing delays.
- Officials expect the affected students to receive their stipends by 4 June 2026.
Student nurses in Gauteng have reportedly been left stranded following delays in the payment of their monthly stipends.
Approximately 500 student nurses across four nursing colleges in the province have been affected by the delay.
The Gauteng Department of Health said Human Resources Management officials are currently finalising the capturing and verification of all required documentation, adding that the issue is expected to be resolved soon.
“The relevant files are being submitted to e-Government to enable the processing of stipend payments for approximately 500 affected students across four nursing colleges. The Department has engaged e-Government to prioritise these transactions,” said departmental spokesperson Steve Mabona.
According to the department, the payments are scheduled to form part of the Tuesday, 2 June 2026 payment run, with funds expected to reflect in students’ bank accounts on Thursday, 4 June 2026.
As an interim measure, management at the affected colleges has released students for recess. Students are expected to return to their respective colleges on Monday, 8 June 2026.
The department apologised to all affected nursing students and reiterated its commitment to resolving the matter as urgently as possible.
