  • Former Tshwane Metro Police officer Mashudu Ernest Mukwevho has been sentenced for soliciting and accepting bribes from motorists.
  • The conviction follows a 2018 joint operation by the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit and the Hawks, which utilised undercover agents and bait vehicles.
  • Mukwevho received a four-year prison sentence, which was wholly suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has welcomed the sentencing of former Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officer Mashudu Ernest Mukwevho for corruption.

Mukwevho was convicted following a joint undercover sting operation conducted by the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit (NTACU) and the Hawks.

The 2018 operation specifically targeted corruption among law enforcement officials.

To secure the conviction, the RTMC provided comprehensive operational support, deploying undercover agents, audio-visual recording equipment, and bait vehicles to catch officers soliciting and accepting bribes from motorists.

Mukwevho was handed a four-year prison sentence, which has been wholly suspended for five years, provided he does not commit a similar offence during this period.

The RTMC reiterated that corruption among traffic officials severely undermines public trust, compromises road safety, and weakens the rule of law.

The corporation stated that it remains fully committed to rooting out malpractice and ensuring corrupt officers are held accountable.
