Broos is expected to step down as Bafana Bafana coach after the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
The Belgian guided South Africa to a bronze medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and has also pushed the team closer to regular competitiveness again.
BENNI MCCARTHY SPEAKS ON BAFANA BAFANA POSSIBILITY
With SAFA already expected to start discussions around possible replacements, several familiar names have entered the conversation.
Pitso Mosimane, Rulani Mokwena and McCarthy have all been linked with the job as the country begins thinking about the next era.
The former Orlando Pirates and Blackburn Rovers striker has now addressed the speculation publicly. He has said coaching the national team would naturally appeal to him.
“I think a lot of people will be interested in the job to coach Bafana. But if I’m asked, of course I would. It’s my country. It’s the national team,” McCarthy told KICK OFF Magazine.
“So it’s a very good time to achieve things with this group of players, with the calibre and quality that they have,” he said.
The 47-year-old, however, also admitted that timing could become a factor if SAFA eventually comes knocking after the World Cup.

CLUB FOOTBALL STILL CALLING
McCarthy explained that while coaching Bafana Bafana would be special, he still misses the day-to-day demands that come with club football.
“So, yeah, if the chance comes, I don’t see why I wouldn’t want to coach my national team. But maybe not the next job after the World Cup because I miss club football,” he added.
“…because there is too much time in between matches for the national team,” McCarthy added.
