Gayton shares Bafana score predictions – confident or crazy?

Gayton McKenzie has shared his score predictions for Bafana Bafana’s FIFA World Cup group stage matches, insisting that the national team can make it to the next phase of the tournament.

South Africa will play Mexico in the opening match in Mexico City on Thursday, 11 June.

GAYTON MCKENZIE SHARES BAFANA SCORE PREDICTIONS

On his X account, Gayton McKenzie posted his 2026 FIFA World Cup match predictions for Bafana Bafana.

The Minister of Sport, Art and Culture tweeted: “My score prediction is: South Africa 1-1 Mexico.

South Africa 3-1 Czechia.

South Africa 2-1 South Korea”

He added: “Viva Bafana Bafana, Mexico and South Africa are going through”.

Speaking to the SABC, Gayton said he was confident South Africa could finally make it to the next round of the tournament.

He said, “Our players are going to show the world who we are. We are Bafana Bafana, we are South Africans. Ons skrik vir niks. We’re 100% percent behind them”

HAS SOUTH AFRICA EVER MADE IT OUT OF THE GROUP STAGES?

South Africa last played, by default of being the host country, in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Before that, Bafana last qualified for the tournament in 2002, in South Korea and Japan, and in 1998, in France.

Despite winning the AFCON, the national team has never made it past the group stage.

On 11 June, South Africa will play their opening match against Mexico at the Mexico City Stadium, also known as Estadio Azteca. They’re likely hoping to recreate their historic 2010 game in which they drew 1-1.

South Africa will also play Group A opponents Czechia and South Korea on 18 and 25 June, respectively.
