Kaizer Chiefs boss urges fans to support Bafana Bafana

Kaizer Chiefs director Jessica Motaung has encouraged fans to support Bafana Bafana amid social media trolling of the national team.

This comes as disgruntled Amakhosi supporters have pledged allegiance to Mexico ahead of the opening match of the FIFA World Cup on Thursday, 11 June.

Fans have bemoaned that just one club player – Bradley Cross – has made the World Cup squad.

KAIZER CHIEFS’ JESSICA MOTAUNG PLEADS WITH FANS

Speaking at the 2026 Toyota Cup launch at the Kaizer Chiefs Village on Tuesday, 9 June, Jessica Motaung made a public appeal to the club’s fans.

This comes in light of many Chiefs players openly trolling Bafana Bafana, and pledging support to the Mexican team over their disappointment with the national squad selection.

She told FARPost: “From a Kaizer Chiefs point of view, we are very excited to be watching Bafana Bafana in their first game in the World Cup.

“I just want to say, they have the support from the entire Amakhosi nation—but South Africa first, please.”

SNUBBED PLAYERS EN ROUTE TO WORLD CUP – AS SUPPORTERS

Meanwhile, three Kaizer Chiefs players, Brandon Petersen, Thabiso Monyane, and Lebohang Maboe, are reportedly en route to Mexico to watch the FIFA  World Cup opening match, as supporters.

The trio missed out on selection by Bafana coach Hugo Broos for the official squad.

Days later, Minister of Sport Gayton McKenzie announced that the excluded players, which also include Orlando Pirates’ Patrick Maswanganyi, Durban City’s Brooklyn Poggenpoel and Sundowns’ Thapelo Morena, would get a chance to be part of the World Cup action.

Their trip to Mexico has been funded by the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture and local sports brand, Old School.
