The Special Tribunal has granted the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) a preservation order and an interim interdict to freeze a R6.4 million Midstream Estate property and R1.8 million in pension benefits. The assets are linked to Duduzile Nkosazana Nobungwana, a former Tembisa Hospital supply chain clerk who resigned during a disciplinary hearing.
The SIU alleges that Nobungwana used her influential positions, including Chief Buyer and Vetting Committee member, to facilitate the irregular appointment of suppliers. In return, she allegedly received secret bribes and kickbacks. These funds were reportedly channelled through a front company, Mabitwa Trading, to purchase the luxury estate, which was then registered under a company owned by her son.

The crackdown forms part of a broader investigation into an extensive procurement fraud network operating within the Gauteng hospital.

Through this asset forfeiture, the SIU has publicly identified the alleged mastermind behind the corruption ring:
“The SIU can now reveal that the face behind the syndicate is Stefan Joel Govindraju.”
The preservation order ensures the luxury home and pension payouts cannot be sold or accessed, safeguarding assets suspected to be the proceeds of unlawful activities while the investigation into Syndicate X continues.
