  • The second group of Ghanaian nationals scheduled to leave South Africa from OR Tambo International Airport has reportedly cancelled its departure.
  • The developments come amid growing anti-illegal migration protests and calls for undocumented foreigners to leave the country before 30 June 2026.
  • Meanwhile, the ANC has condemned intimidation linked to the protests and warned that those breaking the law will face prosecution.

The second group of Ghanaian nationals that was expected to depart from OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, will no longer be leaving South Africa.

This comes after the collective was reportedly identified on the registration list of individuals screened over the past weekend.

At least three flights are expected to transport Ghanaian nationals who have voluntarily chosen to return home in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the first group of Ghanaian nationals has already departed South Africa amid looming anti-illegal migration protests, with undocumented foreign nationals allegedly being given until 30 June 2026 to leave the country.

The protests are being organised by the “March and March” movement, which has been calling on the government to address undocumented migration.

The movement argues that South Africa is under growing pressure due to rising demands on public resources and services.

Meanwhile, the African National Congress (ANC) has strongly condemned the March and March movement, warning that acts of intimidation could violate South Africa’s hate crime laws.

Speaking in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula warned that anyone involved in mob justice, harassment, or intimidation would face prosecution.
