Three forensic pathology centres in Gauteng have officially resumed operations following employee protest action earlier this week.
The pathology centres are located in Pretoria, Diepkloof, and Hillbrow, where services had been disrupted.
Steve Mabona, spokesperson for the Gauteng Department of Health, said operations are now back in service following engagements between management and employees regarding working conditions.
“The Department remains committed to addressing the concerns raised through appropriate internal processes, while ensuring that essential services continue with minimal disruption. Employees have since resumed duty and are committed to working continuously to clear the post-mortem backlog that resulted from the protest action,” said Mabona.
Families affected by the delays may now arrange for the collection of bodies through their appointed undertakers.
Facilities will also continue to support collections over the weekend to assist families with burial arrangements.
Mabona said the department will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure that services remain stable and that affected families receive the necessary support.
