Popular Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe Ferrari Sibanyoni has been arrested.

Police confirmed his arrest on Tuesday morning, 12 May 2026.

The charges against Sibanyoni have not yet been confirmed. The taxi boss has previously been linked to alleged crime kingpin Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala and the alleged Big 5 cartel.

Many of these allegations emerged during testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

During the testimony of Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, the commission was shown WhatsApp messages exchanged between Nkosi and Sibanyoni, in which they allegedly appeared to celebrate the 2024 raid on Vusimusi “Muzi Cat” Matlala.

Matlala is also the man accused of attempting to kill Sibanyoni in Centurion in 2022.

While no allegations of wrongdoing against Sibanyoni have been formally made at the commission, his name has repeatedly surfaced during testimony relating to irregular and questionable security payments in Tshwane.

Police are still expected to confirm the charges facing the well-known taxi boss.

This is a developing story.
