MANILA, Philippines – After weeks of hearings and presentation of evidence, the House of Representatives is set to hold a decisive plenary vote Monday afternoon that could pave the way for the transmittal of the four Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte to the Senate.
- Justice Committee Chair and Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro is expected to sponsor Committee Report (CR) No. 261, which contains the Articles of Impeachment, before the plenary for deliberation. Lawmakers will then debate and decide whether the measure should be approved and transmitted to the Senate, which will eventually convene as an impeachment court to try the Vice President.
- Although only 105 votes are required to transmit the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate, more than 200 lawmakers have reportedly expressed support for the move, indicating strong backing ahead of the crucial vote.
- If endorsed by the plenary, the approval will formally advance the case to the next stage of the constitutional process, where the Senate will take over proceedings and sit as an impeachment court to hear the charges.
