Synopsis
It tells the story of Shen Xiao, a poor scholar who studies hard to become an official and uncover the truth behind his father’s death. After an unexpected one-night encounter with Princess Zhaoyang, Li Shu, she abandons him.
Soon after, he achieves the top score in the imperial examinations. At the new scholar’s banquet, Shen Xiao faces the emperor, and his first memorial is an impeachment of the “extravagant and decadent” princess.
The two go from mutual destruction to mutual appreciation, developing feelings for one another. From opponents to allies, Shen Xiao helps the princess break free from her chains.
As they stand together in opposition, they come to understand the core issue behind the class struggle: only when the nation is at peace and its people prosper can individual lives find their own security.
