Kaizer Chiefs may be out of the Betway Premiership title race, but their season is far from over.
Amakhosi’s seven-match unbeaten run came to an end with a 2-0 defeat to Siwelele FC on Wednesday evening.
As a result, their momentum has taken a hit at a crucial stage of the campaign.
However, there is still plenty at stake as the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season approaches its conclusion.
Let’s take a look at how much Amakhosi can make – and what they need to do – to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
CAF CONFEDERATION CUP IN SIGHT FOR KAIZER CHIEFS
Mathematically, Kaizer Chiefs can no longer be crowned champions this season.
Mamelodi Sundowns lead the latest Betway Premiership standings with 61 points after 26 matches, while Orlando Pirates remain close behind on 59 points from the same number of fixtures.
Kaizer Chiefs are on 47 points – with a maximum of 12 more on offer.
That means, even if they were to win their remaining four matches and log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns lose all of theirs, it still won’t be enough for the Glamour Boys to catch Masandawana.

Amakhosi will now shift their focus to securing the next best outcome – a third-place finish.
That position guarantees qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
Currently, Kaizer Chiefs are five points ahead of AmaZulu FC in fourth spot.
Therefore, eight points from their final four matches will be enough to secure third place for Amakhosi.

FINANCIAL INCENTIVE FOR AMAKHOSI
There is more than pride on the line.
Qualification for this season’s CAF Confederation Cup paid $100 000 (R1.67 million) to teams which were eliminated in the preliminary round.
Those sides which reached the Group Stages were guaranteed $400 000 (R6.7 million), while quarter-finalists received $550 000 (R9.2 million).
The losing semi-finalists took home $750 000 (R12.5 million).
This season’s CAF Confederation Cup final will see Algeria’s USM Alger and Egyptian side Zamalek fight for a $4 million (R66.8 million) first prize, with $1 million (R16.7 million) going to the runner-up.

Even if CAF decide not to increase the prize money for next season, it’s clear Kaizer Chiefs have ‘millions’ of reasons to finish the season on a high note.
In addition, continental football offers exposure, experience and a platform to rebuild their reputation.

PLENTY TO PLAY FOR FOR AMAKHOSI CO-COACHES
Despite their most recent league setback, Amakhosi remain in control of their destiny in terms of CAF Confederation Cup qualification.
A strong finish will not only secure third place, but also strengthen the case of the club’s current co-coaches, Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, when Amakhosi’s hierarchy do their performances assessments and decide on the coaching path their wish to take.
For Kaizer Chiefs, the league title may be gone, but the mission remains clear.
