A fire incident at Lower Sabie Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park has disrupted retail services, with authorities advising visitors to prepare accordingly ahead of their stay.

According to SANParks, the fire broke out on the morning of Tuesday, 21 April, affecting the camp’s retail shop.

No injuries have been reported.

Guests urged to plan ahead

Visitors with upcoming bookings at Lower Sabie are encouraged to stock up on essential supplies before arrival or purchase items at nearby camps, including Skukuza Rest Camp, Crocodile Bridge Camp, Satara Rest Camp, Tshokwane Picnic Site, and Nkuhlu Picnic Site.

SANParks confirmed that accommodation at the camp remains unaffected, with Lower Sabie fully booked for the upcoming long weekends, including Freedom Day (27 April) and Workers’ Day (1 May).

Guided game drives and bush walks are continuing as scheduled.

Restaurant closed due to power issues

While the camp’s restaurant was not directly damaged by the fire, it remains closed due to power outages caused by the incident.

Temporary retail, food and beverage services are expected to be introduced as soon as possible.

Guests have been urged to avoid the affected area while safety assessments continue.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
