The Democratic Alliance (DA) has unveiled a new slate of mayoral candidates across multiple municipalities in the Western Cape as preparations intensify ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
The party says the candidates have undergone a rigorous selection process and are tasked with leading DA caucuses in their respective municipalities, and serving as mayors where the party retains or wins control.
Candidates announced
The latest list includes candidates for several municipalities, including:
- Bitou Local Municipality – Jessica Kamkam
- Bergrivier Local Municipality – Mario Wessels
- Cape Agulhas Local Municipality – Raymond Ross
- Drakenstein Local Municipality – Stephen Korabie
- Garden Route District Municipality – Marais Kruger
- George Local Municipality – Browen Johnson
- Matzikama Local Municipality – Richard van Huyssteen
- Overstrand Local Municipality – Clinton Lerm
- Swartland Local Municipality – Harold Cleophas
- Stellenbosch Local Municipality – Jeremy Fasser
- Witzenberg Local Municipality – Trevor Abrahams
The party noted that all of these municipalities are currently under DA-led administrations, with the new candidates expected to ensure continuity of governance.
Party priorities
The DA said its focus remains on strengthening service delivery, maintaining clean audits, and improving governance across municipalities it controls.
It highlighted job creation, anti-corruption efforts, improved safety, and reliable basic services as key priorities under its leadership model.
Election outlook
With the local government elections approaching, the DA says it will campaign aggressively to retain control of its strongholds and expand its footprint.
The party maintains that its record in municipal governance demonstrates its ability to deliver effective administration and sustain service delivery in the Western Cape.
