Pretoria Bacardi singer and dancer Karabo Khaku, who is affectionately known as Jelly Babie, has opened up about the alleged abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband, Koketso.

Responding to questions on social media, Jelly Babie said one of her biggest regrets in life was getting married to an emotionally manipulative man.

“Yoh, I wish I never got married,” she said when one of her fans asked how marriage has been treating her.

“I survived being in an abusive marriage at a young age, but I don’t think I will ever recover.”

She shared how she suffered emotional, physical, and financial abuse at the hands of her husband, who’s reportedly a traditional healer.

The ‘Jukulyn’ hitmaker also revealed that the abuse led her to attempting to take her own life multiple times, but she survived.

Jelly Babie is affectionately known for her energetic Bacardi dancing, which is one of the favourite dance styles in townships in the City of Tshwane.

She rose to prominence at the age of 16 with her hit song ‘Thaba ke chenchitse’. She is also known for her controversial public presence, following an incident where she swore at a retail worker.

She officially tied the knot with her husband in 2024.
