SAPS captain arrested in Gauteng over alleged multi-million rand fraud

  • A SAPS captain has been arrested in Gauteng for allegedly defrauding the police service of millions through the Polfin system.
  • The officer is accused of manipulating funds meant for Presidential Protection Services.
  • He is set to appear in court, while SAPS leadership has reaffirmed its stance against corruption.

A police captain has been apprehended for allegedly defrauding the South African Police Service (SAPS) of millions of rand.

The 53-year-old officer was arrested following an internal investigation sanctioned by the Division: Financial Management Services, after suspicious transactions were detected on the Polfin system.

It is alleged that the officer manipulated the system to withdraw millions of rand intended for Presidential Protection Services.

He is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 07 April 2026, on a charge of fraud.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed the court appearance.

The National Commissioner of SAPS, Fannie Masemola, has welcomed the arrest.

“Any member found to be engaging in corrupt activities will face the full might of the law. There will be no exceptions and no compromise. Accountability is not optional; it is a fundamental pillar of our service,” saidGeneral Masemola.
