  • The NCC has recalled certain Jaguar Land Rover Defender and Jaguar I-PACE vehicles due to safety and battery-related defects.
  • The Defender recall involves a faulty seatbelt component, while the I-PACE may face battery overheating risks.
  • Affected owners are urged to visit authorised dealerships for free repairs and follow interim safety measures.

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has recalled Jaguar Land Rover Defender and I-PACE vehicles.

The recall is due to potential defects that may affect the vehicle safety systems and battery performance.

“Jaguar informed the NCC that they are recalling certain 2026 Model Year Land Rover Defender vehicles which were made available for sale between 3 November 2025 and 21 February 2026 and sold nationally through authorised dealerships, affecting 60 (sixty) vehicles,” said the NCC’s Acting Commissioner, Hardin Ratshisusu.

Ratshisusu says the third-row lower seat belt anchorage bracket may contain a weld stud of insufficient strength due to material contamination during manufacturing.

This defect could prevent the seatbelt from working correctly in a crash, increasing the risk of injury to occupants.

“Jaguar I-PACE vehicles: Jaguar is also recalling certain 2019 to 2021 Model Year Jaguar I-PACE vehicles that were sold nationally between 23 June 2017 and 18 June 2021, affecting 67 (sixty-seven) vehicles. The supplier has identified a potential issue affecting the high-voltage traction battery pack. In certain circumstances, the battery may experience thermal overload, which may result in smoke or fire,” Ratshisusu added.

As an interim measure, affected Jaguar I-PACE vehicles will receive a software update that restricts the maximum battery charge level to 90%.

Consumers have been advised to limit charging to 90%, park vehicles away from structures, and charge vehicles outdoors where possible.

If your vehicle is affected, you are urged to take it to the nearest authorised Jaguar and Land Rover dealerships for repairs.

The necessary repair work will be carried out at no cost to the consumer.
