- 84 000 litres of diesel were delivered to the C de Wet Depot this morning, allowing full bus operations to resume for the Monday afternoon peak.
- A total fuel shortage on Sunday and early Monday grounded all 155 daily shifts, leaving thousands of commuters stranded without transport.
- MMC Tlangi Mogale has engaged Mayor Nasiphi Moya and initiated “non-performance” disciplinary action against the officials responsible for the outage.
The City of Tshwane’s MMC for Roads and Transport, Tlangi Mogale, has confirmed that 84 000 litres of fuel were delivered to the Tshwane Bus Service (TBS) C D Wet Depot on Wednesday morning, 1 April 2026.
In a statement on social media, Mogale said the first delivery prioritised C D Wet Depot, which runs the busiest 102 daily shifts. Fuel deliveries then followed to Jan Niemand Depot and Pretoria North Depot.
“This delivery will cover full capacity, and we will be back to full bus operations for the afternoon and throughout the week. Again, we profusely apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused our customers and residents,” Mogale said.
The fuel delivery comes after all three TBS depot filling stations ran out of diesel on Tuesday, 31 March, bringing services to a near standstill. According to the City, only 65 of the planned 155 daily shifts were able to operate using limited remaining fuel.
Kaya News reports that as of Monday 30 March, all TBS buses were grounded due to the shortage, with no bus departures recorded in the early hours of the morning.
Mogale confirmed she had engaged with Executive Mayor Nasiphi Moya on the matter.
“I have also engaged with the Executive Mayor on this non-performance matter and am expecting a non-performance letter from the Governance Support Officer (GSO) to be issued. What our residents and commuters were subjected to yesterday is totally unacceptable,” Mogale said.
With the fuel now delivered, TBS is expected to resume full operations across all depots for the rest of the week, easing commuter disruptions.
