  • Kenny Kunene refuses to apologise for his podcast remarks and is preparing to defend the defamation claim in court.
  • The lawsuit centres on Kunene’s claims regarding Malema’s associations with businessman Adriano Mazzotti and the use of the term “boy,” which Malema alleges is racially derogatory.
  • This case represents the latest chapter in a bitter, ongoing legal feud between the two political figures, with both sides now readying for a courtroom battle.

Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy president Kenny Kunene has issued a defiant response to a R1 million defamation lawsuit filed against him by Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema.

Kunene has formally stated that he will not apologise for his remarks, vowing to contest the matter in court with witnesses and supporting affidavits prepared.

The legal action stems from comments Kunene made during a February 2026 appearance on the Podcast and Chill with MacG.

During the broadcast, Kunene alleged that Malema resides at a property owned by businessman Adriano Mazzotti and hosts meetings there with individuals he described as “cartel members.”

Additionally, Malema’s legal team contends that Kunene defamed the EFF leader by referring to him as a ‘boy,’ a term they argue carries racial undertones.

Responding to the legal challange Kunene said he needed to respond to Malema as he too was attacked by Julius when he was found at KT Molefe’s house. He explained why he called Malema a ‘boy’

“He says, calling him a boy is racist. Because white people used to call black people during apartheid. That’s laughable. It’s a joke. It shows desperation.

Number two. I said he’s defaming me for saying that he envies white people he envised white people. He doesn’t hate them. He wants to be white. He is. He uses white lawyers. He used a white social worker to go and plead for him, yet he called himself a revolutionary,” said Kunene

In the interview on Point of View with Phemelo Motene, Kunene dismissed these allegations as an abuse of the court process, noting that this marks the third time Malema has initiated legal proceedings against him.

He maintains that his statements are grounded in evidence and has already filed an answering affidavit. This latest clash is part of a long-standing and volatile rivalry between the two politicians, which has previously involved high-profile court battles regarding hate speech allegations.
