Another vehicle recall hits South Africa as Jeep models face safety concerns
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued yet another vehicle recall following weeks of product recalls across the country.
This time, the recall affects the Jeep Grand Cherokee WL series.
According to the commission, Stellantis South Africa issued a safety recall affecting 920 vehicles distributed across South Africa between 2021 and 2023.
The supplier cited possible damage to the vehicle’s ball joints sustained during assembly. Stellantis warned that the defect could cause the wheel to tilt outward, drastically increasing the risk of a crash occurring without prior warning.
NCC spokesperson Phetho Ntaba urged affected motorists to act swiftly.
“Consumers who own affected vehicles are urged to take their vehicles to an authorised Jeep dealership for inspection and the necessary repair or replacement, which will be carried out at no cost to the consumer,” said Ntaba.
Vehicle owners have been encouraged to respond to the recall as soon as possible to avoid potential safety risks on the road.
The National Consumer Commission said it would continue overseeing the recall process in line with the Consumer Protection Act to ensure consumer safety and compliance by the supplier.
